Endometriosis Consultation

Expert assessment for pelvic pain, heavy periods, and fertility concerns. Rapid diagnostics, personalised treatment plans, and compassionate care from specialist women’s health gynaecologists.

Endometriosis happens when tissue that behaves like the lining of the womb grows in places it shouldn’t, often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes or the pelvic lining. That tissue still reacts to your cycle: it builds up, breaks down and bleeds, but unlike the lining inside the womb, it has nowhere to exit. The result can be painful, messy and sometimes the cause of fertility trouble.

At Your Gynae Health, our Endometriosis Consultation combines a thorough symptom review with the appropriate investigations, typically a pelvic ultrasound and, when necessary, a diagnostic laparoscopy.

We don’t rush. First, we try to understand how your symptoms show up day-to-day and what they mean for your life and family plans. Then we agree on a stepwise, evidence-based plan: it could be pain management, hormonal treatments to quiet the disease, or referral for minimally invasive surgery.

Recognising the Symptoms of Endometriosis

The symptoms of endometriosis vary significantly from person to person, but often include:

What to expect at an Endometriosis Consultation

Your first visit usually starts with a thorough history of when the pain started, its pattern, bowel or bladder symptoms, sexual pain and any concerns about fertility. We will review records of past tests, scans, and surgeries to ensure we are not repeating work that has already been done.

A clinical exam may be part of the appointment, and we can arrange a pelvic ultrasound that day or soon after to look for ovarian cysts (endometriomas) and other features. Where possible, we aim for a “one-stop” visit: history, scan and focused advice in the same appointment, which many patients find reassuring and time-saving.

Diagnosis and treatment options

Endometriosis is commonly suspected from symptoms and ultrasound findings, but a definitive diagnosis can require direct visualisation via laparoscopy. Treatment is always tailored to your goals, whether that’s pain control, preserving or improving fertility, or treating advanced disease. Options commonly include:

Specialist centres in the West Midlands are recognised for advanced laparoscopic excision and multidisciplinary care, which can include colorectal or urology input for complex disease.

Why specialist assessment matters

There is often a long delay between the first symptoms and specialist review nationally. Many patients wait years for a definitive diagnosis. Seeing a consultant-level gynaecologist experienced in pelvic pain helps rule out other causes, fast-track the right investigations, and build a personal plan that balances symptom relief with your life and family plans. We aim to cut down that delay by offering timely appointments and clear next steps.

Frequently asked questions

What are the common symptoms of endometriosis?
Symptoms vary but often include painful periods, chronic pelvic pain, pain during or after sex, bowel or bladder symptoms around periods, and difficulty conceiving. Symptom severity doesn’t always match the amount of visible disease, so assessment focuses on how symptoms affect your life.
We begin with a detailed history and a pelvic ultrasound. A definite diagnosis usually requires laparoscopy (keyhole surgery), which also allows a surgeon to treat the disease at the same time if appropriate. Occasionally, we use additional imaging or blood tests to guide decisions before recommending surgery.
Not necessarily. Many people try medical treatments and pain-management approaches first. Surgery is considered when symptoms are severe, when medication isn’t helping, or when fertility is a concern.
Yes. For deep or complex endometriosis involving the bowel or bladder, we collaborate with our colorectal and urology colleagues to ensure coordinated and safe care.
